What is GeoToolBox?
GeoToolBox is a free, browser-based GIS toolkit. You can view, convert, transform, and analyze geospatial data such as GeoJSON, KML, WKT, and Shapefiles directly in your web browser.
Is GeoToolBox free to use?
Yes. GeoToolBox is free to use. No account, subscription, or payment is required.
What file formats are supported?
We support GeoJSON (.geojson, .json), KML (.kml), WKT (Well-Known Text), and zipped Shapefiles (.zip containing .shp, .dbf, .prj). You can convert between these formats as well.
Is my data uploaded to your servers?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, so your data stays on your device.
How do I convert between formats?
Open the converter tool, choose the direction (for example GeoJSON → KML), upload or paste your data, and then download the converted file in the desired format.
What is the maximum file size?
File size limits are 20 MB on mobile and 50 MB on desktop. Larger files may cause your browser to slow down or crash because all processing is done locally.
Does GeoToolBox work on mobile?
Yes. The interface is responsive and works on tablets and smartphones. The mobile file size limit is lower to keep performance smooth.
Can I use GeoToolBox offline?
Once the page is loaded, most tools work without an internet connection because the processing is client-side. However, you need to be online to load the app and map tiles.
What coordinate systems are supported?
The coordinate converter supports geographic coordinates (WGS84 latitude/longitude) and UTM projections. Most tools use WGS84 internally.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
